Everest & East Nepal Treks

This is one of the most popular routes in the Nepal Himalaya, commanding the exciting views of Lhotse (8,516m) and Nuptse (7,855m) not to mention the world's highest peak, Mt Everest 8,848m, which is also called Sagarmatha or Chomolangma.

Starting from Lukla, this course goes through Namche Bazaar and visits the gompa in Tengboche. Namche Bazaar is known for its open-air bazaar and as the home town of Sherpas. The gompa in Tengboche is the head monastery of Tibetan Buddhism. You will also see another gompa in Pangboche, which is a town further on, and will observe the religious life of the mountain people. From Lobuche on, you will be trekking in the glacier area and, after visiting the belvedere in Kala Pattar, you will finally reach Mt Everest Base Camp in a remote part of the Khumbu Glacier.

Since you will be trekking in places of high altitude, the risk of getting altitude sickness is very high. The elderly and those who have high blood pressure are advised to be especially cautious. Also, since the flights to Lukla may get cancelled when the weather is bad, it is wise to set your schedule with a little leeway both ways.

Rolwaling Himal is a group of mountains that include Gaurisankar (7,134m) and many other beautiful 6,000ers such as Numbur (6,937m), Chobutse (6,685m), etc. Unlike Chordung peak (3,690m), which is before Gaurisankar and is visited by many trekkers recently, the Rolwaling Khola area, which is the heart of Rolwaling Himal, has much fewer trekkers and maintains the same tranquility as before.

The course that crosses over Tesi Laptsa and connects to Khumbu Himal is well-known. However, it is not a route for everyone since the elevation is very high and a high technique to deal with ice and snow is required.

The round-trip course between Dolakha and Tsho Rolpa is more recommendable.

At present, in order to go further than Congar, you are obligated to obtain a climbing permit for parchamo (6,273m), adjoining Tesi Laptsa. Since the regulations change often, you are advised to confirm them beforehand.

There are no lodging facilities on this course and you need to take camping gear, fuel, and food with you. It is recommend to be accompanied by Sherpas.

Also consider the far western region of Nepal - plenty of rewards; majestic woods and vegetation, interesting inhabitation and Himalayan scenery but generally not often visited by trekkers. Food and accommodation are often difficult to obtain in this region, so those venturing there must be entirely, self-sufficient. To reach the west of Kaligandaki valley, either take about a 4 hour bus ride from Pokhara to Baglung and trek through Dhorpatan and Dolpo or fly to Jumla or Dunai from Kathmandu, via Nepalgunj.
